It is the result of the organizational authorities\u2019 desire, the Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes Region, the Cantons of Geneva and Vaud, and the Federal Office of Transport, to improve mobility and the quality of life of the Franco-Vaud-Geneva region\u2019s inhabitants.<\/p><p>Franco-Swiss financing: the SBB and the Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes Region have invested nearly 500 million Swiss francs (about 460 million euros) in the 40 trains of the L\u00e9man Express. The modernization of the infrastructure and the construction of the new CEVA line, which gives the L\u00e9man Express its cross-border dimension, cost nearly 2 billion francs (about 1.8 billion euros), financed by the two States, the Franco-Swiss sponsors of regional traffic, and the local authorities, with the support of the European Union. <\/p><p>Putting the L\u00e9man Express into service is an enormous challenge for the SBB and SNCF operators on several levels: in terms of rolling stock, but also in terms of cross-border
